Learning the truth about Mormonism by watching South Park

I have put other South Park videos on this blog but I have wanted to put this one up for a while now. The way they portray the Mormon family is so perfect. What I love about it is that they got 98% of the story right. I hope y’all enjoy it as much as I do.

  1. dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb!!!! That video cracks me up even more now that I don't believe the lie anymore. Did that Lucy thing really happen with hiding the papers and then Joseph got another vision and had to translate differently? I never knew that....I was so blinded the good faily values and cute missionaries I would have believed anything huh?:)

  2. That is true, however we don’t know for sure if the papers were stolen, hid or destroyed. The “translation” that was on the papers was from the plates of Lehi. When they were lost, God told Joseph’s Myth to stop the translation from Lehi and start using the plates of Nephi, his son. Conveniently, those plates contained the same basic story but since Nephi told it, it was a little different. I imagine Gold plates are heavy, so why would they bother carrying around two sets if they told the same story?

The fear was that if he re-translated the same pages again, others could alter the originals and then claim that what he wrote the second time did not match. The problem with that idea though is that it would be impossible to doctor the original papers because of the type of paper and ink they used. They did not use pencil so just erasing it is not possible. If they tried to re-write them, the handwriting would obviously be different. I think Joseph knew he could not replicate the story so he had to come up with a way to make any changes ok. If he really was translating with “the gift and power of God”, then why couldn’t God tell him the exact words again?

  3. I'm not a southpark fan, but I do know that they have been critical of scientology also. Are there other religions that they have gone after or is it just these two?

  4. Curious,
One thing I love about South Park is that to them, everyone is fair game. They have attacked just about every organization you can think of.

  6. I thot that something like twenty people signed a paper testifying that they saw the golden plates. I looked into mormonism a long long time ago for a brief period and I remember something like that.

  7. No- there were the three witness: Oliver Cowdery, Martin Harris, and David Whitmer. I am not sure if they actually saw the plates or not, but they have "testimonies" saying something about that. The truth of that is that Joseph Smith actually wrote their testimonies and they all just signed them. Pretty lame.
